Congestion or presence of an excessive amount of blood in a body part.
n. the presence of excess blood in the vessels supplying a part of the body. In active hyperaemia (arterial hyperaemia) the arterioles are relaxed and there is an increased blood flow. In passive hyperaemia the blood flow from the affected part is obstructed.
