Also known as BORNHOLM DISEASE. A painful condition of the chest wall, it is usually the result of an infection of coxsackie virus B (see COXSACKIE VIRUSES) and may occur in epidemics (see EPIDEMIC). Fever, sore throat, headache and malaise are typical but the condition is self-limiting, subsiding within a few days.
